Topics Covered

The HSI Instructor Development Course (IDC) was created to train individuals as authorized instructors for American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) and/or MEDIC First Aid branded emergency care training programs. Using a blended training approach, the IDC combines an initial online learning session to develop cognitive understanding, followed by a single-day, in-person classroom session for developing and practicing instructional skills.

·         ASHI course you wish to instruct or current AHA instructor

·         Individuals at least 17 years old who hold current provider certification and/or demonstrated competency in layperson adult, child, and infant CPR, AED, and first aid

·         Complete self-paced online course prior to class (will be assigned upon class registration)

·         Classroom review

Required Equipment

·      Candidate materials | Online portion of the blended IDC course | Instructional materials from ASHI/MEDIC First Aid layperson prov

·      Successful completion and instructor authorization Successful completion of the IDC by itself does not authorize an instructor candidate to conduct ASHI or MEDIC First Aid training courses and issue certification cards. Candidates who have successfully completed the IDC must affiliate with an approved Training Center who will submit an application for instructor authorization. Instructor candidates can also establish their own Training Center.

·      Written evaluation: Instructor candidates must get a passing score of at least 76%, or at least 46 correct questions out of 60, to successfully complete the online portion of the IDC and become eligible to attend the face-to-face portion.

·      Performance evaluation: Instructor candidates must perform these required skills competently without assistance: - Facilitating a program lesson - Performing a skill demonstration - Conducting a small group practice - Conducting a scenario practice - Conducting a performance evaluation Recommended time to complete

·      Online Component: 2-3 hours; Face-to-face component: 5-6 hours.

·      Renewal Training: There is no renewal course or challenge for the IDC. Instructor renewal is completed through instructional activity. Instructor reciprocity from another training organization is handled through a defined reciprocity process.
